Interview with Wade Thornley

When did when did you first start attending the expo?

I think that was about 2004. That first year that we took four draft horses.

What's been keeping you wanting to go back every year?

I would say I love the area there, I love the people, and it's a gorgeous setting there in rural Montana. It's a lot of fun with the people we've met - a lot of neat friends throughout time... people that you could call lifetime friends.

How did you guys start showing draft horses?

The family has always had draft horses. Ours went way back into the 1800s. Amy's families started pretty early in life. It was something that her and I decided we wanted to start off with our families so now our three sons are involved and it's just something we look forward to every year. 

How do you like showing draft horses here in in the west?

The western draft horse circuit is somewhat small. There's still quite a few hitches out here in the west, but you end up tending to travel quite far. It's like being back at your family reunion when you see the friends and acquaintances, and everybody enjoys being able to beat one another once in a while!

If you can come it's going to be a great year. It's going to be fun It's going to be great to get away from this COVID thing. There's going to be plenty of room in the grandstands for social distancing if that's something you're worried about. You can come and stay protected.
