Montana Draft Teamster Hall of Fame

The draft animal era is the time from the mid-1800s to the 1930s when the extensive expansion and industrialization of the United States depended on horses, mules, and oxen, and teamsters who drove them. The majority of people who use on our modern highways and are served by railroads do not realize that early roads and railroads were built using draft animals.

About The Big Sky Draft Horse Expo

The History

Big Sky Draft Horse Expo began when the Powell County Museum & Arts Foundation organized Montana Frontier Days with a show in September 1995. This event featured teams and four-up hitches of draft horses and mules in a parade and competition. A chili cook-off and cowboy poetry provided entertainment. A second show with the same activities was held in 1997.
